Create the Perfect Rustic Wedding (Series #2)

Did we put the horse before the cart? Well I think not. Most planners will have you select a budget before you select your season and then a date and finally a venue while you Create the Perfect Rustic Wedding. Let us assume you have these done. Now it’s time to create a wedding budget.

According to a study done in 2016 by The Knot, 13,000 brides and grooms were polled nationwide and asked what the average cost of their wedding was. It was found that they splurged $35,329 on total personalization to create the ultimate guest experience.

By no means am I suggesting this is what you should budget to give you, your wedding party and guests a day they will always remember. At Caribou Bay Retreat and Event Center it might look like you spent that much money. But only you, your partner and your parents need to know the real amount!

So create a list of every expenditure you plan to make for your event. Remember, from a Thursday – Sunday, we offer a beautiful guest house that sleeps 18 for you and your party to kick back and enjoy. Our list of amenities is long and distinguished. You needn’t rush your set-up or your tear-down. This is supposed to be fun and done at a pace that makes it enjoyable for everyone. Especially you! You’ll be delighted to know that you can accomplish this for one of the most reasonable prices you’ll find any destination wedding venue at. Simply call us for details.

Create Vacation Memories (Part #2)

Lists, lists, lists. Yuck! A pain to create but a tool that will make your family vacation the best one yet.

Every member of your family or every guest staying with you at Caribou Bay has a favorite something they just can’t live without. It might be a favorite pillow for Aunt Gertrude, a favorite beer mug for Uncle Tom, it might be a super soft blanky for Baby Sarah, a football for son Johnnie or a Led Zeppelin CD for daughter Chloe.

Get the picture? You’ve picked a great venue for your vacation spot. There will be no shortage of fun and interesting things to do. But with a little extra planning, why stop there? Make it your best trip yet!

All of your linens, bedding and towels are provided. But do you have a favorite blanket or pillow that makes you sleep like a baby when you use it? If you do, bring it along!

All of your dishes, pots/pans and flatware are provided. We’ve even got a 10 cup coffee maker at your disposal. But do you crave a Frappuccino in the morning? If you do, bring the fixins along!

The same can be said about yard games, board games, fishing bait, a fishing pole, bicycles to ride (two are provided), a favorite basketball or football (both provided but might not meet your son’s discerning specifications, so have them bring their favorite along).

If you have a question as to what’s provided or what isn’t, just ask. We are more than happy to work with you tirelessly to make your stay at Caribou Bay Retreat and Event Center, the best vacation yet.

Create the Perfect Rustic Wedding

This is the first in a series of blog posts intended to help stimulate the wedding couple who prefer a wedding event seeped in a casual atmosphere of woods, water, gardens and rustic buildings. Because this best describes Caribou Bay Retreat and Event Center; and because I am the blogger and a Managing Director of this fine venue; the narrative will focus on our experiences at the retreat and how this might help you Create the Perfect Rustic Wedding.

Congratulations! You’re engaged to be married! You and your partner have decided to tie the knot. You’ve probably already talked about what your perfect wedding would look and feel like. You’re both in agreement… a casual, rustic wedding is perfect for us!

First things first… You’ll need to pick a season and, for flexibility, some dates that will work for you. If you live in the Midwest, just about any time of the year can be spectacular in its own special way. Of course we have many requests for weddings in the late spring, summer and fall. But winter in Wisconsin is now becoming a beautiful time of the year to get married. We’ve set the retreat up for weddings year around. If you choose to stay completely indoors for your winter wedding, our event center can act as a chapel for your ceremony and a wonderful building for your reception and evening festivities. And don’t forget that bon fire we can accommodate you with. Make memories that will last forever!

Create Vacation Memories

So you’ve gathered your family around the kitchen table and asked every member (that’s old enough to understand the question), “what would you like to do for this year’s family vacation”? And in unison, everyone yells, “let’s go to Caribou Bay!” (jk) We hope that’s what everyone yells. But even if it’s not, you’ll be going somewhere with the idea, you’re there to make memories.

The happiest guests seem to be those that arrive with an idea of what they would like to do with their well-deserved break from everyday crazy. They’ve spent some time researching the fun things available at the venue as well as the fun things available around the place they stay.

A lists of things to do (your family’s “to do” list) can be very helpful. For instance, Caribou Bay Retreat is located on 35 acres woods, water and pine plantations. You can hike, snowshoe, cross country ski, swim, fish, play tennis or do just about anything out of doors. The point is, check your venue’s website to see what they offer and plan activities accordingly.

Depending on the time of the year you stay with us, you are within an easy drive of the Wisconsin Dells, many challenging golf courses, fishing lakes, Class A Trout streams, ski hills, excellent restaurants/Wisconsin supper clubs and small hamlets that have a myriad of shops for browsing. At Caribou Bay there is a map of local Amish bakeries, vegetable stands, quilt shops and businesses to explore. The Mecan and Wedde segments of the Ice Age Trail are within walking distance from us. Use the retreat as a base and bike, jog or walk around the rural roads. Explore and have fun. These are just a few of the things you can do off the retreat’s property.

When making up your vacation “to do” list, keep in mind that weather can make plans change at any time. What might not work today might work great tomorrow, so keep alternative activities in mind.

Call or send us an email/text asking about your favorite activities. We are more than happy to help you have fun any way we can. Let’s make memories!
